Study set up at NCKU to commemorate Kun-Yen Huang

Tainan, Taiwan, March 4, 2015

Kun-Yen Study in commemoration of Dr. Kun-Yen Huang’s years of contribution to medical education is set up at National Cheng Kung University College of Medicine (NCKUCM). An unveiling ceremony of Kun-Yen Study was held on March 2.

Over 50 guests, including NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su, the Dean of NCKUCM, Dr. Chun-Yen Chang, Superintendent of NCKU Hospital, Prof. Yang Chyun-Yu and the President of Academic Affairs, Professor Ming-Derg Lai have attended the ceremony to give their respects to Dr. Kun-Yen Huang.

Dr. Huang was a famed doctor and professor whose distinguished contribution to the school and medical education in Taiwan is well recognized.

In her remark, President Su said that Dr. Huang’s role played in founding NCKUCM is critical. “In 1982 under the direction of Dr. Huang the NCKUCM established and since then the development of the college has followed the ideals and notions highlighted by Dr. Huang.”

President Su, along with professors and alumni of NCKU College of Medicine, raised funds for the construction of Kun-Yen Study which is situated at NCKU Kun-Yen Medical Library.

According to President Su, there are a diversity of studies at NCKU Campus as well as Tainan City. Each study represents a unique value.

“We hope that the study which shows the humanities in education of medicine could inspire more people to join the action,’ said President Su.

NCKUCM Dean Chang said,” Ever since I joined the College of Medicine, I have felt the great impact of Dr. Huang on the college. His professional knowledge, educational ideal, and guidance for young generation have long influenced us. He is the spiritual model of the college. ”

The president of Academic Affairs, Professor Ming-Derg Lai, is the person who purposed the idea to build the Kun-Yen Study in the first place. He said, “The establishment of Kun-Yen Study aims to pass down Dr. Huang’s love for medicine.”

Books read or written by Dr. Huang, desk lamp, photos and personal possession of Dr. Huang are all displayed at the Kun-Yen Study.
