A campaign against dengue organized by National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, to engage communities against dengue has proven effective, residents and shop keepers nearby are happy to see NCKU volunteers visiting and offering home improvement tips to combat dengue.

NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su led her staff and more than 20 volunteers to visit the stores on Yule Street, a popular food lane, and activity centers nearby the university on September 5.

The community members and shop keepers appreciated the efforts NCKU put into dengue prevention and control and when President Su and her team visiting, together they shared tips and ways to protect against dengue.

With dengue fever cases skyrocket in Tainan recently, NCKU has been actively engaged community members in identifying the primary problems with dengue.

President Su said, raising awareness about safe health practices and educating people on how to keep their surroundings clean is of utmost importance when combating dengue.

When visiting the shop keepers, she encouraged them to adopt preventive measures, practice safe sanitation and know about the factors behind the spread of dengue.

The volunteers passed out pamphlets on dengue prevention and helped people identify dengue-breeding sites around their shops and homes.

A campus-wide cleanup was launched in mid-August in NCKU to raise awareness of dengue and disseminate information on the prevention and control of dengue.
