TCUS launches its transnational research team

Taiwan Comprehensive University System (TCUS) announced at a recent press conference that the TCUS transnational research team is officially launched as commitment to strengthen the institute’s research excellence.

Five world-renowned scholars are invited to join the TCUS transnational research team, TCUS honorary chancellor Paul Ching-Wu Chu revealed.

They are Dr. Xiang Zhang from University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Nai-Chang Yeh from California Institute of Technology, Dr. Zhifeng Ren from the University of Houston, Dr. Chih-Ming Ho from University of California, Los Angeles and Dr. Tu-nan Chang from University of Southern California.

TCUS established in 2012 is an alliance formed by National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), National Sun Yat-Sen University (NSYSU), National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), and National Chung Cheng University (CCU).

TCUS honorary chancellor Chu, Dr. Tu-nan Chang, NCKU president Hwung-Hweng Hwung, NSYSU president Hung-Duen Yang, and CCU president Jyh-Yang Wu attended a grand ceremony took place on August 5 at the conference held at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, to mark the alliance’s commitment to strategic research partnership.

The research team will explore the areas in advanced marine resources, new frontier materials, and bio-medical engineering, according to TCUS honorary chancellor Chu.

He also said, TCUS will allocate funds to two sub-projects in the area of advanced marine resources first with $10 million NT dollars per year for each of the sub-projects.

Dr. Xiang Zhang, Dr. Nai-Chang Yeh, Dr. Zhifeng Ren, and Dr. Chih-Ming Ho will visit Taiwan in the middle of February, 2015 to further discuss the related issues with the team members, Chu noted.
