National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Tainan, Taiwan, announced today to join the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), a global strategic alliance and research network, as the commitment to innovation in research and education.

A signing ceremony marked the establishment of partnership between the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) and National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) took place today, November 2, 10:30am, at NCKU.

NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su and WUN Executive Director John Hearn on behalf of both organizations signed the agreement.

Hearn said, “We delighted to have NCKU as a member and we’d like you to join us quickly, not only engaged in the programs that we have but also bring new strength and new programs that you have to our network.”

He also noted, “We are looking forward to having new culture dimensions, perhaps new research dimensions in health, education, development of the public hearth, in educational reform.”

President Su said, “I see WUN network serve the interest for the university to gain more presents among the international partners and global peers, but also potentially would trigger more research programs that involved more foreign institutions.”

According to Hearn, WUN starts with a group of American and British universities 15 years ago. “About 7 years ago we went global and now we have 20 universities in many more countries and we intend to continue to grow globally,” he said.

He also explained, “But because we are a research organization, we don’t want to grow over 25 universities. Now we have 20 with NCKU joining us and we delighted to have you join us.”

Knowing that young scholars in NCKU are ambitious in their research and shined in several international competitions, Hearn said, Encouraging and helping the development of the young scholars and young leaders to gain international experience is the top priority for our network.

So the practical ways for them to become engaged is to look up our website and our programs to see what they like, see what they can join with, and see how their own expertise can bring leadership to new programs in WUN, he continued.

NCKU is the first university joining WUN in Taiwan, according to the university.
