The articles written by Prof. Chen have a great influence on the lives of many people. I was extremely excited when I had the chance to read the articles by Prof. Chen. His style of writing is very delicate and he can discuss science from the perspective of literature and also discuss literature from the perspective of science. There are very few who can use this delicate writing to describe science. His writings are the most typical masterpiece of the integration of science and literature.”

President Lai also mentioned, “The works of Prof. Chih-Fan Chen have a great significance for me personally. After I graduated from junior high school, I was addicted to the works by Prof. Chen. I had the opportunity to meet with Prof. Chen in my freshman year and the honor to ask him to sign on two of his written books which were published in 1961 and 1962. I have preserved these two books for 50 years and today I am donating them to National Cheng Kung University.”

President Lai revealed, “This is my first time to see Prof. Chen in 50 years. I am very excited. The Exhibition is the integrated achievement of humanities and science at NCKU. I have received a gift from Prof. Chen 50 years ago, and now Prof. Chen is giving NCKU a bigger gift, which is donating the books and documents of his entire life to NCKU. We have the responsibility and obligation to preserve these cultural and historical relics for the next generation. Prof. Chih-Fan Chen represents the spirit of National Cheng Kung University, which is the integration of science and h umanities, and we have to pass it down generation after generation.”

Prof. Yuan-Feng Tung, wife of Prof. Chih-Fan Chen, has expressed her sincere gratitude toward National Cheng Kung University and her respect and love for her husband in the opening remark, which has moved the audiences.

Prof. Yuan-Fang Tung, said, “First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude toward National Cheng Kung University for creating a database which includes all the written materials and documents. From the perspectives of literature and science, NCKU has collected and compiled the information and works of Mr. Chen, whether they are written in the language of literature or in the language of mathematics.”

Prof. Tung also revealed, “Mr. Chen likes walking, reading and writing. When he is walking and reading, he always thinks of how to transfer thoughts into words both in articles and letters. He forgets the thoughts when he has done expressing them in words. Therefore, he keeps on writing and forgetting, leaving nothing behind. Mr. Chen has traveled freely between the fields of humanities and science without border or barrier. He is one of the few Renaissance men. I sincerely hope the cultural and historic relics of Mr. Chen at NCKU Library can inspire the young generation to indulge in the world of books.”
