NCKU holds orientation camp for new students

National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, held a three-day orientation camp to welcome the freshmen who are anticipating the coming of new semester, starting from September 9 to 11.

A series of activities were taking place in the three days to help new students familiarize themselves with the campus and to the new academic environment as well as many other aspects of academic and social life at the campus.

A total of 3,121 new students gathered together in the opening ceremony of the 2015 Freshman Orientation Camp held in Chiang Kai-Shek Gymnasium, Kuang-Fu Campus on September 9 to celebrate the beginning of their four-year study at NCKU.

Dengue outbreak is occurring in Tainan City and for protection NCKU had the Chiang Kai-Shek Gymnasium sanitized and prepared mosquito repellents at the entrance for people to apply on their clothing.

Also, the staff members passed out pamphlets on dengue prevention to the students and had them fill in dengue questionnaires to keep track of their health condition.

In her opening remarks, NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su welcomed the new students to join the big family of NCKU.

She said, the four years in university are probably the most important years of your life. NCKU is the best choice for students who aspire to succeed in academic goals.

She also encouraged the students to find their own passion and make their own marks as an individual.

An ice-breaking ceremony, presided over by NCKU President Su and her administrative team, was then held to signify breaking the barriers and entering a brand new phase.

2015 NCKU Orientation Camp includes the general introduction of NCKU, student forums led by renowned scholars and outstanding graduates, school song singing, student association introduction and a campus tour.
