The chosen alumni have high achievements in their business and great contributions to the society. However, I believe this is not enough. To be an outstanding alumnus of NCKU, one needs to express the spirit of NCKU. The alumni of NCKU have outstanding performance in the society, not merely relying on professional knowledge but also on excellent human accomplishments. The alumni of NCKU have excellent reputations in the society and are the favorites of the enterprises, but a successful person has to be both an entrepreneur and a leader. The outstanding alumni we have chosen today all represent leadership spirit and they are the models for the society, capable of making contributions to the human beings and society and giving glories to their alma mater.”

President Lai also urges the chosen alumni to give back to their alma mater and act as a role model for the student body because alumni normally have large influence on the young generation and stresses that to become an internationally top university, teachers, students and staff as well as alumni of National Cheng Kung University have to put in joint efforts.

Chiao Tung, President of the Apple Daily, Hong Kong, expressed, “I still remember back then, when I learned about news in the department, the teacher was the Chief Editor of China Daily News. I envied the life of a newspaper man very much, but I did not expect myself to inherit the same work of media, including news broadcast, magazine and newspaper, so soon. It has been 46 years since my graduation from NCKU and I have returned to my alma mater for the first time this April. I am extremely grateful for NCKU for remembering a wanderer like myself and awarding me with the honor and joy of the NCKU Outstanding Alumni Award.”

Tien-Yu Chen, Chairman of Diamonchem International Co., Ltd. and Diapolechem International Co., Ltd., expressed, “It has been 20 years since I started my business. The knowledge I have acquired at my alma mater are very practical and pragmatic. If I have made any achievement, I believe I should thank the knowledge and inspirations that NCKU humanistic education has given me. The concept of giving back is extremely important. As I manage my company, I hope to take good care of my fellow colleagues and workers and make excellent plans of sustainable management. I am also pleased to have future NCKU alumni to join the big family.”

Chi-Hai Lin, President of TOA Resin Corp., Ltd. and RDD Lab, Inc., expressed, “NCKU Outstanding Alumni Award is one of my most glorious honors in my life. This honor has elevated my responsibilities to me and to the society. For the past 50 years, every stage of my growth has involved National Cheng Kung University. In addition to educational teachings, the guidance and support I have received at work are all related to NCKU alumni. Being a NCKU alumnus, I have received warm help and support from the senior alumni, so my business can run smoothly. I am proud to be a NCKU alumnus.”

Chei-Chen Yin, President of Yin McDonald's, expressed, “For more than 40 years, I have always wanted an opportunity to give back to my alma mater. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to donate NT$1,000,000 to NCKU to help students with poor economic conditions to continue their study. I would also like to share my life experiences with students who are still attending the university. An individual will make a fortune if he or she puts in efforts, be successful if he or she persists, and be happy when he or she helps others. Life will be joyful when one becomes economically independent and insists on.”

Sen-Tang Chen, Chairs P.S. Chen & Partners Architects & Planners, expressed, “I am grateful that I have received the NCKU Outstanding Alumni Award. My experience at NCKU has made me believe that the educational style, school spirit and cultural atmosphere have great influence on the mental growth of youth. During my days at NCKU, I have encountered frustrations, but I have nurtured two habits, which are concentration on things and care for the society. These two habits, cultivated at NCKU, have contributed greatly to the success of my business.”

Chow-Fang Chen, Founder of Diwan & Company, expressed, “Back then, even though I was not accepted by my first choice, National Taiwan University, there were more time for studying than playing. There were plenty of resources to use as well. More importantly, I discovered the direction of my life and I was able to bring my skills and potential in financial accounting into full play. I am pleased to see that National Cheng Kung University has developed into a top university in Taiwan.”
