NCKU set up Ma Cheng-Jeou Study

National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) retired professor Ma Cheng-Jeou of the Mechanical Engineering Department recently celebrated his 100th birthday and as a birthday wish he donated his lifetime book collections to the department.

Ma’s collection is now housed in a room called the Ma Cheng-Jeou Study (馬承九書房) which is located at the fourth floor of the Mechanical Engineering Department Building.

An opening ceremony took place on December 23 with many students and friends of Ma’s coming to celebrate the big day.

President Hwung-Hweng Hwung and Vice President Hong-Sen Yan were both attended the ceremony, extending their warm welcome to the guests and congratulating the professor.

President Hwung said, the teaching of Professor Ma emphasizes hands-on experience which has established good tradition and solid development for the mechanical engineering department.

In his remark, Ma expressed his gratitude to the department for setting up the Ma Cheng-Jeou Study.

He said that the books are like his friends who silently telling beautiful stories and sharing knowledge of the world.

He also said that he is very happy that he has found a new place for his friends in the department.

The Ma Cheng-Jeou Study showcases Ma’s extensive donations including books, manuscripts, books, artifacts and photos.

His collections of research journals dated from 1934, historical artifacts during the Japanese occupation, and cypress wood bookcases are also displayed in the study.
