President Huey-Jen Su was officially inaugurated on January 30 as National Cheng Kung University’s (NCKU) new president at the third lecture hall, College of Medicine, NCKU.

She told NCKU community members and university delegates from across the country, “I approach today’s installation and my service as president of NCKU with a sense of both honor and humility.”

After thanking family, friends, and the NCKU community, President Su announced a series of new university initiatives that aim to propel NCKU forward and further position it as a leader in Taiwan and beyond.

President Su said she will continue to strengthen NCKU’s research excellence by building on its research capabilities, pioneering new research areas and developing platforms to facilitate international collaboration with strategic research partners.

NCKU will be a globally-oriented university, in the distinguished league of the world’s leading universities, according to Su.

In her inaugural speech, Su also referred to missions accomplished by her predecessors that have developed NCKU into its present leading position.

Su mentioned these accomplishments to emphasize the legacy of commitment that has been passed down to her and the new responsibility that she is undertaking.

NCKU as one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Taiwan possesses great historical heritage with which the university will build an appreciation for the region’s heritage as a place of past and future innovation, according to Su.

She also said that she is committed to enhancing the university’s already eminent standing as a place where gifted scholars focus on research, teaching, and mentoring the rising generation to become engaged citizens and tomorrow’s leaders.

The foundation of her presidency will center on three aims - embracing the university's mission as a top-tier world university, being a diverse and democratic community, and to be a university that celebrate its academic values.
