16 professors received TCUS young scholar innovation awards

Taiwan Comprehensive University System (TCUS) in recognition of young scholars’ innovation and contributions to science had recently awarded 16 professors from the 4 allied universities, as Dr. Paul Ching-Wu Chu, the Honorary Chancellor of TCUS, personally presented the certificate and NT$30-100 thousand bonus.
TCUS was established in 2011 jointly by National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), National Sun Yat-Sen University (NSYSU), National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) and National Chung Cheng University (NCCU) -- all in southern or central Taiwan -- in order to integrate educational resources in that part of Taiwan and to drive a comprehensive development of various industries in Taiwan.
The winners will be supported by the university mainly and their projects will be developed into a “Burgeoning Plan” which will be further technology transferred and commercialized with the aid from the Technology Transfer and Business Incubation Center.
TCUS Young Scholar Innovation Award criteria include young in age, innovative in research, and potential in academia-industry cooperation, according to NCKU Office of Research and Development (ORD), the institute organized the awarding program.
The Best Young Scholar Award was presented to Associate Professor Jenn-Ming Song of Materials Science and Engineering from NCHU with his research, “Synthesis and Multi-applications of Core-Shell Nanowire Composites.”
Dr. Song’s research interest is in Advanced Interconnect Materials, Microelectronic Packaging, Synthesis and Applications of Nano-materials.
5 recipients of The Excellent Young Scholar Award are Prof. Tsung-Yi Ho and Kuo-Chang Lu from NCKU, Prof. Tsung-Hsien Lin from NSYSU, Prof. Ping-Shan Lai from NCHU and Prof. Yu-Wei Leu from NCCU.
A total of 82 scholars from TCUS had applied for the nomination of 2012 Young Scholar Innovation Awards, according to Joe Lin from NCKU ORD who added that the nominating procedure is not only rigorous but careful and the award is considered a great honor for the promising young professors in Taiwan.
