National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) continues to deepen its engagement with Malaysian alumni and the local educational sector. On September 5, Executive Vice President Yuh-Neu Chen, representing President Meng-Ru Shen, led a delegation to Kuala Lumpur to attend the opening ceremony of the 41^st NCKU Mathematics and Science Competition and 5^th NCKU Business Competition, hosted by the NCKU Alumni Association of Malaysia. The delegation also participated in the NCKU Admissions Briefing in the afternoon and celebrated the Association’s 54^th anniversary at NCKU Gala Dinner that evening. This full day of activities—spanning academic competitions, recruitment, and alumni networking—brought together local alumni and key partners to celebrate shared achievements and reinforce lifelong connections.

This year’s competitions drew over 300 students and teachers from 46 local secondary schools, showcasing decades of dedication to talent development. Vice President Chen highlighted that NCKU, founded on engineering excellence, has evolved over its 95-year history into a comprehensive research university, ranking among the top 200 globally in the QS World University Rankings. To encourage top Malaysian students to pursue their degrees at NCKU, the university offers various forms of support, including tuition waivers through the “International Merit Students in Mathematics and Science, and Business Achievement Scholarship.” She encouraged participants to look beyond winning, advising them to view the competition as an opportunity to gain experience, assess their strengths, and strive for self-improvement. Reminding them that “taking part in today’s challenge is already half the battle won,” she warmly invited these exceptional students to join NCKU and embark on a shared path to success.

Speaking at NCKU Gala Dinner, Vice President Chen noted that since its establishment in 1972, the NCKU Alumni Association of Malaysia has grown from a modest group of 20 members to over 1,200 today. Their professional achievements embody the core values of NCKU alumni: resilience, pragmatism, quiet dedication, but impactful contributions.
 

With NCKU celebrating its 95^th anniversary this year, Vice President Chen extended a special invitation to Malaysian alumni to return to Taiwan for the anniversary events in November. Guided by the theme “Jubilate as One for Past Ninety-Five; March Abreast into Future Ahead,” the university aims to rally its global alumni network and preserve the inspiring stories of successive generations through spaces like the NCKU Museum as it approaches its centennial.

Vice President Chen underscored that NCKU's global visibility continues to rise, securing 191^st place in the latest QS World University Rankings, with alumni contributions playing a vital role in its international standing. Expressing deep gratitude for the longstanding support of the Malaysian alumni, she voiced her expectation to further strengthen collaboration across alumni relations, talent development, and industry-academia partnerships—ensuring NCKU graduates continue to excel worldwide as the university crafts its next chapter of excellence.
