A series of events to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the College of Medicine of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) kicked off on Feb. 24th with a special exhibit on wall of art decorated with the photograph, Presence of Venus, filmed Mr. Si-Chi Ko (柯錫杰) as well as a poem from the well-known poet Mr. Chou-Yu Cheng (鄭愁予). An opening ceremony of K.T. Li Clinical Training Center and the inking ceremony with Chi-Mei Medical Center were also featured in the anniversary celebration.

The photograph, Presence of Venus decorated on the wall in front of Cheng-Hsing Hall where important activities of College of Medicine were always held, such as freshmen orientation, convocation ceremony as well as the white coat ceremony, represents the new milestone that the College of Medicine has reached as well as the symbolic icon for College of Medicine’s 25th anniversary celebration. It also enhances the appreciation for cultural humanity in College of Medicine.

Attending the anniversary celebration, NCKU President Dr. Michael M.C. Lai indicated that NCKU Hospital symbolizes the landmark of NCKU development as a comprehensive university. President Lai attributed the success and transformation of NCKU to former NCKU President, Dr. Han-Min Hsia (夏漢民), and former Dean of College of Medicine, Dr. Kun-Yen Huang (黃崑巖). President Lai said that the medical practice and science progress so rapidly and, thus, more and more challenges will be encountered.

The opening ceremony of K.T. Li Clinical Training Center was held on Feb. 24th featured with the attendance of Mr. Bruce Cheng, the founder and chairman of Delta Electronics, NCKU President, Dr. Michael M.C. Lai, and Dr. Chyi-Her Lin (林其和), Dean of College of Medicine. K.T. Li Clinical Training Center was not made possible without sponsorship of K.T. Li Technology Lectureship with more than 10 millions NTD, endowed by Mr. Bruce Cheng, the founder and chairman of Delta Electronics and the matching fund of another 10 millions NTD by NCKU.

Mr. Bruce Cheng remarked that clinical experience which young doctors lack is very critical to the training and cultivation of medical staffs. Making endowment to public or welfare organization is meaningful. He believed that NCKU Hospital will take care of patients more deliberately with this clinical training center.

Clinical training is integral to the cultivation of a doctor. In the newly built K.T. Li Clinical Training Center, students of College of Medicine or resident doctors can apply their concepts and methods acquired from books to the study of clinical problems. K.T. Li Clinical Training Center equips itself with simulated surgery rooms, intensive care unit, emergency rooms as well as nursing training classrooms, etc. All equipments and facilities are well prepared and simulated, which can ensure the medicinal students or attending doctors to practice on patients more smoothly and successfully without any risk to patients due to the unfamiliarity.

Aside from the enhancement and establishment of hard facilities, the inking with NCKU Hospital’s counterpart in Southern Taiwan, Chi-Mei Medical Center on Feb. 24th will activate the cooperation between two institutes, including the communication of administrative management, academic research and educational internship with the aim to promote the medical standards in Southern Taiwan.

Dr. Chyi-Her Lin, Dean of College of Medicine said that the future collaboration between NCKU Hospital and Chi-Mei Medical Center will develop a more reliable medical network to provide patients in Southern Taiwan with a better medical environment.
