Tainan, TAIWAN, March, 11, 2009 --- ''2009 NCKU Student Forum: Conversations between the Master and Student Leadership, themed on Soaring Sky-High with Wind'' kicked off monthly lecture series on 11th with a bustling opening ceremony and opening remark by National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) President, Academician Michael M.C. Lai. The NCKU Student Forum, viewed as the leading conversation platform for the Masters and student leaders among Taiwan's universities. There would be four Student Forums to be held with invited speakers: Mr. Lucifer Chu, the Founder of Fantasy Foundation, Mr. Hsun Chiang, the well-known writer, Mr. H.T. Jan, the Chairman of PChome Online and Mr. Stanley Yen, the CEO of Landis Hotel.

According to the remark by President Lai, every faculty, staff and students should possess the curiosity to pursue the truth and new knowledge. A culture of a university is created by its members. Therefore, NCKU should attract top students from around the world. Second, NCKU should provide interdisciplinary education to nurture students with spirit of leadership and humanity except for the professional knowledge and skills. Third, students should experience the university life with the perspective of taking challenges as opposed to the kind of the unmindful.

There are four topics of this year's NCKU Student Forum: accomplishment by learning—embark and explore unlimited possibilities; living in delights—tranquil and feel the beauty of life; existence by self-realization—determine to find one's own way; care for the universe—implement your compassion. This year, the fifth Forum, themed on ''Soaring Sky-High with Wind,'' is featured by the bamboo dragonfly rotated and thrown by all attendees to symbolize building the abilities of influencing the world.

Organized by Office of Student Affairs, planed, designed by students, the Student Forums will be held on 19th, 23rd, 24th and 30th, starting from 5:30 pm at Cheng Hsing Hall at College of Medicine. The Forum is not a traditional lecture; rather it will be a dialogue between masters and students to discuss questions from multiple points of view.

The Forum was started five years ago by students, and they invited professional masters to share with students their knowledge. The topic for the first year was the transition from an academic to a leader, the topic for the second year was the leader of new century, and that of the third year was on love, dreams and NCKU students. The topic of fourth year is on how one can find sufficient ground at NCKU so that one can demonstrate their strength for realization as well as the features of NCKU in the 21st century.
