2010 NCKU Student Forum Begins on March 9th
Tainan, Taiwan, March 5th, 2010
The opening of “2010 NCKU Student Forum: Student Leaders vs. Masters” was announced by President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai, Vice-President Pi-Chin Hsu of Student Affairs, forum hosts and dozens of student representatives, who all dressed in cowboy costumes, on March 5th in National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan.
The first dialogue of “2010 NCKU Student Forum: Student Leaders vs. Masters” will be held on March 9th, from 6 pm to 9 pm, in the NCKU Cheng-Hsing Hall. The subsequent three dialogues will be held on 16th, 18th and 23rd. Each dialogue consists of one topic, one moderator, one invited master, one NCKU student leader as well as one student leader outside school, involving in a multilateral exchange of discussion and interaction. Synnex Technology International CEO Shu-Wu Du, former National Policy Advisor Huo-Wang Lin, Glass Garden Founder Heinrich Wang, Senior Advisor Richard Chia-Tung Lee and other well-known masters will engage in the conversation with the student representatives.
NCKU President Lai expressed, the uniqueness of the NCKU Student Forum is that it is planned and organized entirely by the students. By participating in the forum, students have the opportunity to communicate with the masters and share their experience. This lesson is more precious than a lecture. President Lai expected the students to make good use of this opportunity to learn from the masters.
The four representatives of the student forum, Yi-Lin Tsai and De Hao of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, Wei-Guo Li of the Department of Civil Engineering and Jessie Fang of the Department of Accounting and Statistics, stated that the cowboy style symbolized the pioneer spirit of courage and perseverance which are in correspondence with the four topics of the forum, “Breakthrough”, “Cherish”, “Creativity” and “Care”. They hoped to achieve breakthrough in one self, find good faith, enrich life with practicality and embrace the world with care.
To become an internationally top university, students need to have humane accomplishments, world perspective, as well as multi-thinking. Over the past few years, National Cheng Kung University has organized Student Forum annually, with students inviting well-known masters to NCKU for mutual exchange and sharing. In the dialogues between masters and students, different viewpoints have agitated sparks and inspired many students.
