Senior High School Teachers Participated in Feast of Culture and Technology at NCKU

The Academic Division of the Office of Academic Affairs at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, has organized a feast of culture and technology on August 12th and 13th, inviting more than 30 Directors of Academic Affairs and Directors of Counseling from renowned national high schools to understand NCKU and personally experience its fruitful achievements.

National Cheng Kung University has specially planned lectures, department visits, heritage tours as well as museum and library explorations for the guests, including 32 high school teachers and 23 NCKU students of bachelor degree program, to experience a rich intellectual and emotional journey.

The opening ceremony began at 1pm, August 12th, in Kuang-Fu Campus, NCKU, and was hosted by President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai. President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai expressed, “As the President of higher education, there are very few things to do. Students have already cultivated habits and literacy due to the efforts of high school teachers. I’m extremely grateful to these teachers. NCKU is one of the comprehensive universities in Taiwan and its graduates are the favorite of the enterprises. Their performance and attitude in the workplace are praised by the enterprises. The goal of NCKU education is to nurture students with international perspectives, humanistic accomplishments, interpersonal relationship, social caring, leadership spirit, cross-disciplinary knowledge and self-learning ability, valuing both classroom education and life education.”

President Lai also mentioned, “The cultures in Northern Taiwan and Southern Taiwan are different. It is an important life education for students to leave Northern Taiwan and come to Southern Taiwan to study. I hope teachers can take this opportunity to understand Tainan culture and encourage students to come to Southern Taiwan to study.”

Vice-President Ming-Jer Tang for Academic Affairs revealed, “This year is a special year. We have successfully recruited many students from Northern Taiwan due to our determination of becoming an internationally top university and the contribution of the 5 Year 5 Billion fund from the Ministry of Education, Taiwan. For example, 67 students from Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School applied NCKU compared to 41 students last year. In the past, people in Northern Taiwan did not have enough understanding of people in Southern Taiwan. It is NCKU’s mission to promote our reputation and elevate the quality of all aspects. National Cheng Kung University hopes to become an international university in Southern Taiwan, striving for the recognition of parents in Northern Taiwan.”

National Cheng Kung University not only offers professional knowledge learning, it also emphasizes on cross-disciplinary ability, creativity, humanistic accomplishments and international perspectives, encouraging students to make full use of university resources and develop their own interests.

High school teachers who have participated in the feast of culture and technology at NCKU came from Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School, Taipei First Girls High School, Taipei Chenggong High School, Taipei Municipal Song Shan Senior High School, National Yilan Senior High School, National Experimental High School at Hsinchu Science Park, National Taichung Wen-Hua Senior High School, National Chia-Yi Girls' Senior High School, National Tung -Shih Senior High School, National Tainan Girls’ Senior High School, Kaohsiung Municipal Sin Jhuang Senior High School, Lu Chu Senior High School and National Taoyuan Senior High School.
