NCKU Biggest Winner of 2011 CIE Distinguished Engineering Professor Award
Tainan, Taiwan, June 13th, 2011
Four engineering professors from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) have been honored with the 2011 Distinguished Engineering Professor Award granted by Chinese Institute of Engineers (CIE).
President Ying-Jeou Ma presented the awards at the Centennial Conference of the Chinese Institute of Engineers. Among the total ten recipients, Wen-Teng Wu, Jen-Fin Lin, Yung-Nien Sun and Jyh-Ming Ting are from NCKU.
Wen-Teng Wu, a professor of chemical engineering specializing in biochemistry and energy fields, has integrated 15 energy research teams within the school for concentrated research capacity.
Jen-Fin Lin, a professor of mechanical engineering specializing in nano tribology technology, nano measurement and semiconductor manufacturing, has hosted national-level nanotechnology personnel training programs which cultivated over 2,500 talents and conducted 12 nano device projects.
Yung-Nien Sun, a professor of information engineering specializing in medical imaging, computer vision and industry used visual measurement, has worked closely with companies and research institutions such as China Steel and Industrial Technology Research Center to develop automated computer vision system.
Jyh-Ming Ting, a professor of materials science and engineering specializing in nano and thin film materials, has completed technology transfers of heat sink technology and assisted local industry in Tainan to develop high-tech nano-carbon fiber which is currently on sale.
“The performance of NCKU College of Engineering is the top in Taiwan and highly recognized in the world,” said Wen-Ten Wu, former Dean of College of Engineering. “The result of the 2011 Distinguished Engineering Professor Award, where NCKU professors occupy 40% of the recipients, is a newly-added recognition from CIE.”
In addition, Kuo-Chuan Ho from National Taiwan University and Meng-Chyi Wu from National Tsing Hua University, who are both NCKU alumni, have also received the award. “We share the pride in them receiving the honor,” said Wu.
