The NCKU Indonesian Alumni Association hosted its 2025 Lunar New Year gathering on February 8 at the Sun City Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Indonesia Alumni Association hosted its 2025 Lunar New Year gathering on February 8 at the Sun City Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia. Founded in 2014, the association marks its 11th anniversary this year. President Shen Meng-Ru(沈孟儒)attended this event alongside Secretary-General Lo Wei-Cheng(羅偉誠), Director of the Office of Strategic Planning Yu Rwei-Ling (余睿羚), and Vice President of General Affairs Wu Jian-Hong(吳建宏). Liang Fu-Jung(梁福榮)(Department of Civil Engineering, Class of 2004), current president of Indonesia Alumni Association, expressed his delight, noting that approximately 230 attendees participated, making it the largest gathering in the association’s history.

President Shen emphasized that NCKU continues to thrive both in Taiwan and on the global stage.

As the university boasts a history of 93 years, President Shen highlighted three key characteristics of NCKU students: teamwork, empathy, and resilience in the face of challenges. These qualities align with the expectations set by NCKU’s first president, who envisioned students as possessing "clear minds, broad perspectives, and agile hands and feet." These attributes continue to shape the university’s governance and educational philosophy.

Director Yu provided an update on university affairs, highlighting that NCKU was recently ranked as the top university in Taiwan in the 2025 Most Favored Graduates by Entrepreneurs survey.

Over the past year, the university has continued its efforts in building a green and sustainable campus. Alumni returning to NCKU will notice vibrant transformations, including revitalized banyan trees and a picturesque field of cosmos flowers in front of the library. Director Yu also outlined key initiatives for the upcoming year, such as the “Student Financial Aids” to support underprivileged students, “Cutting-Edge Teaching and Research” to develop AI and quantum technology courses, and “Students Physical Fitness Promotion” to enhance the benefits of sports. She encouraged alumni to actively support these initiatives.

President Shen and his delegation also met with the senior alumni to discuss matters related to supporting Indonesian students in admission and academic affairs.
During their visit, President Shen and his delegation also met with alumni Chen Yung-An(陳永安) (Department of Mechanical Engineering, Class of 1978), Cheng Han-Lieh(鄭漢烈) (Department of Civil Engineering, Class of 1980), Wang Chen-Shang(王振上) (Department of Mechanical Engineering, Class of 1980), President Liang Fu-Jung, and Huang Chi-Fang(黃奇芳), among others. The discussions focused on strengthening support for Indonesian students in areas such as admissions and academic assistance.
