“NCKU Meets Nobel|AI × Sustainability: Insights for the Future” Nobel Laureate Lecture Series at NCKU on December 9th

National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) is proud to announce the launch of Nobel Laureate Lecture Series, themed "NCKU Meets Nobel | AI and Sustainability: Future Insights". The first session will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Cheng Kung Hall, Kuang-Fu Campus, NCKU.
 
The first session will feature a keynote lecture by Professor Sir Christopher A. Pissarides, the 2010 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences. Professor Pissarides will deliver a speech titled “AI and the Future of Work and Wellbeing,” offering his profound insights into the critical relationship between artificial intelligence and the future of work and wellbeing.
 
NCKU Meets Nobel
 
Prof. Sir Christopher A. Pissarides is the Regius Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and the Professor of European Studies at the University of Cyprus. He was awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize for Economics for his contributions to macroeconomics, notably labor, economic growth, economic policy and structural change. In the last decade, he has worked on the employment implications of automation and artificial intelligence and on the emergence of China as a global economic power. He is a Professor-at-Large at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a member of several learner societies. His book “Equilibrium Unemployment Theory” is an influential reference in the economics of unemployment that has been translated into many languages. As co-founder and Co-Chair of the Institute for the Future of Work in London, he is actively involved in securing the conditions for the creation of good work and well-being in the age of automation. He has advised the World Bank, the European Commission, the Bank of England and the OECD on employment policy and other macroeconomic issues, and he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2013.
 
This event is part of the TAIWAN BRIDGES Program, a collaborative initiative between the International Peace Foundation and Taiwan. The program aims to foster long-term educational and cultural exchange with the goal of achieving world peace. From November 2025 through May of 2026, Academia Sinica and several leading Taiwanese universities, including NCKU, will host Nobel Laureates for a series of visits and lectures. The program aims to inspire innovative thinking and enrich the research and academic community by providing opportunities for dialogue with the world’s most distinguished scholars.
