Moreover, Huang Jow-Lay, Chair Professor of Materials Science and Engineering has been named as the new President of Kaohsiung University, effective August 31th, 2012. Tang Ming-Jer, M.D., Distinguished Professor of Department of Physiology has appointed President of Tunghai University with effect from February 2013.

According to the record compiled by NCKU, over 80 professors have served as president of universities since its establishment in 1931 which makes NCKU worth the title as the cradle of university president.

Wang whose research areas on multimedia signal processing including speech signal processing is the key person in the NCKU’s patent infringement lawsuit against Apple which draws much attention recently for it’s the first lawsuit filed by Taiwan’s university and reveals the world research excellence of intelligence technology (IT) in Taiwan.

Sharing his over-30-year research experience on humane care, digital learning and innovation research to Tajen University, Wang who is happy with the recognition from the university will carry on his research with the integration of technology and humane.

Prof. Wang received his bachelor and master degree from NCKU in Taiwan and Ph. D. from Stevens Institute of Technology USA in 1973, 1979 and 1983 respectively. He was elected as IEEE Fellow in 1999 for his contribution on: ”Hardware and Software Co-design on Speech Signal Processing.”

As the pioneer of orange technology, Wang extended the green technology of caring for earth and ecology to orange technology of caring for human beings. He indicated that the development of orange technology is hoping to not only allow human beings to live longer, but healthier and happier.

The direction of technological research and development needs to be healthier in the future, according to Wang who added that with the arrival of aging society, countries all over the world are eagerly promoting home-based and community-based health care service with remote monitoring methods, in order to create the best living space for people.

Prof. Huang received his bachelor and master degree in Materials Science and Engineering from National Tsing Hua University in 1976, and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Utah in 1983. His primary field of research is related to structural, functional, and dielectric ceramics and coatings.
